Day 45 - Strike Update October 27, 2024

Your Union has been in communication with the U.S. Department of Labor in an effort to spearhead getting back to the table. As always, we will keep you informed of any developments.

Right now, our top priority is strength on the picket lines. Weather shouldn't stop you from picketing. It's a 24/7 job. Every member’s presence makes a difference; send a strong message and support each other by picketing. The stronger our lines, the faster we return to that negotiating table.

In the meantime, please stay vigilant about the information you read and hear. Social media and the internet are filled with misinformation. Make decisions based on verified facts, not rumors or gossip - your future and your family's future depend on it. Don’t let others choose for you; make your own choices based on what is true and what is best for you.

This week, your committee will be engaging and listening to members on the picket lines. Take this opportunity to be heard, ask questions, and shape the path forward. Don’t hesitate to reach out, as your voices and input are needed.

In Unity,

Your Union Negotiating Committee

Just off the phone with a Shop Steward regarding the November 15 to January 1 no vote issue. There is no bylaw restricting voting to ratify a contract offer. Offers will be voted on as they are made as a result of negotiations.

I want to thank Shop Steward Jeff S. for reading my post and getting the true information. Please remember, our Shop Stewards are in our boat with us, they volunteer a lot of their time to support us in our strike.

I encourage anyone who reads this to contact any Shop Steward if you find suspicious information or hear anything that may feel or seem odd before sharing with others. Or, do what I do and leav…

When the authority on information isn’t transparent where are the members to get their answers? When the few answers out there are on social media then that’s where people get their info. These posts about getting info from reliable and true sources are sent out maybe the Union needs to give more info than pancake feeds and Halloween parties and provide the negotiation transcripts or the voting results by site. I spoke with ten or so members on the picket line today and everyone is confused because there is a lack of communications from the Union. I’m also confused by the lack of members in the Puget Sound area walking the picket lines, one member said she saw on the…

One of the main sticking points I hear from my brothers is the loss of the defined benefit pension. I don't know enough numbers or history of this program to do the math to compare the old pension to the new 401k benefit being offered, but I think it might help to compare them mathematically for our union members to consider. Could someone with IAM do some number crunching and put together a fact sheet to compare the current 401k offer with the old pension model? It might be helpful to create a chart to compare potential monthly income from pension vs. from 401k @ 5yrs, 15yrs, 20yrs. Run those numbers with 0%, 3%, 6% & 12% interest earn…

Doing some quick calculations for a middle of the row grade 5 at max progression, we have a pay rate of 49.48 per hour * 160 hours a month being 7916.80 per month. Boeing offers an automatic 4% contribution right at the start. Plus matching 100% of 8% of your income. If you max that match contributing only 8% that puts... 4% auto contribution- 316.64 8% match - 633.28

8% contribution - 633.28 Total - 1583.20 every month going into your retirement.

With the following returns here is what your nest egg would look like... 0% - 702,852 (This will never happen you will always get more than this.) 3% - 1,285,496

6% - 2,582,360

12% - 12,968,862

These numbers…
